From the Upton Parish Magazine - August 1932

We heartily congratulate Mr H Whaley in his promotion in the Official Services of the L.M.S. Railway at Chester Station, but at the same time his departure to Holyhead will be deeply regretted by his many friends in Upton, especially among cricketers.   For many years he has been a very active member of the Upton Cricket Club and it is due to his energy, with others, that the organisation of U.C.C. has reached its present standard of efficiency.   During his untiring service as Hon. Secretary, the present ground of the club in Demage Lane has been acquired, and the pavilion built.   There have been Cricket Matches played every Saturday afternoon by the 1st eleven or the 2nd against other clubs in the neighbourhood.   These have provided a pleasant Saturday afternoon for cricket lovers and have been well patronised by residents.   Mr Whaley also was a Sidesman of the Parish and a regular attendant at Church.   Another loss to the Parish will be caused by his going away, for it means that his son, who is a Student at Liverpool University, will have to give up his post of Teacher at Upton Sunday School.   Mr Stanley Whaley also had become a proficient Pianoforte Accompanist in some of the entertainments in the Village Hall, and therefore he will be missed too.

We wish father and son however, much further success in the new careers on which they have entered,
